No Season 3, but a 2-Hour TV Movie for Bomb Girls

News from the front is in, and it’s not what we hoped. Global TV has announced their 2013/2014 schedule: A third season of Bomb Girls will not be going ahead. The 2-hour Bomb Girls TV movie they announced together with the cancellation in April was confirmed today. It is said to be “coming this winter”.

This is a disappointment, but it’s a time to focus on everything we have accomplished in the past six weeks. Fans have pulled together and made their voices heard—from mailing campaigns to a fundraiser that achieved more than five times its initial goal and resulted in close to $2,000 for donation to charity. Our many social media posts and love letters to the show demonstrated not only to Global TV but also to the creators, cast and crew just how much the show meant to us.

In short, we made it impossible to ignore us, and in that, at least, we succeeded. Though Global was stingy with acknowledgement, and it may seem they didn’t listen to us at all, we know that they had to see us—we sent 1,000 bandanas to their offices!

Global will not be producing a third season, but the TV movie will give the writers a chance to resolve storylines they left hanging and—hopefully—give us the closure we crave. That’s a privilege that a lot of other cancelled TV shows will never get. Michael Prupas, President and CEO of Muse Entertainment, has said that “what we are trying to do, going ahead with this movie, is to ensconce Bomb Girls as an iconic show, so hopefully we can come back to the characters at some later stage. Keeping the title alive is important to us. We hope it will have a future.” (The Globe and Mail; Apr. 26, 2013)

What can we do now? For the most part, keep doing what we have been doing. Keep writing to Global and Shaw.

  • Let’s ask for Global/Shaw to produce DVDs of Season 2, so that the show can be immortalized as it very much deserves to be.
  • Let’s reinforce Global’s decision to produce the 2-hour TV movie and prove our willingness to watch it.
  • Let’s continue spreading Bomb Girls through friends, family, and social media, making sure that as many people as possible watch the movie when it airs.

And most of all, let’s keep putting our trust in the amazing creative team behind Bomb Girls, because perhaps the best is yet to come!

Global TV acknowledges our Victory Bandanas

We are happy to report that we heard from Global TV today, and they have confirmed the receipt of our Victory Bandanas. You can read their response below, which does acknowledge the planned TV movie, so we shall remain hopeful that they will at the very least give us those 90 minutes of closure.

It’s still not a third season, and the movie isn’t a 100% sure thing yet, so please keep writing to Global to tell them that a TV movie isn’t enough to satisfy us.

Hi there,

Thank you for contacting Global Entertainment and for the love you have shown for Bomb Girls.

We have received the bandanas and will be looking for an appropriate charity to donate them to. As you may know, Global has a Bomb Girls movie planned for 2013. We will be sharing more information as it becomes available on our website and social media platforms. We’re on Facebook at www.facebook.com/globaltelevision and on Twitter at @global_tv.

Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch with us and share your passion for the show.

Regards,

Global Entertainment

Help us reach the magic number of $1942!

Global TV hasn’t confirmed the Bomb Girls movie or their 2013-2014 schedule yet. We say: Keep the pressure on them. Keep writing and telling them how much you want the show to be renewed. Ask them what they thought of 1,000 Victory Bandanas showing up on their doorstep.

At this point in time we have $1,485 raised towards the Ajax Bomb Girls Legacy Campaign, which is amazing! Wouldn’t it be even more amazing if we could donate $1,942—an amount that is significant to Bomb Girls?

Season 2 was set in 1942, a year when the war was not going well for the Allies. Even though things were tough, real Bomb Girls were still fighting. However for our Bomb Girls, 1942 is the year the war ended and Global TV surrendered. An overall charity donation of $1,942 sends the signal that the fans still care and won’t give up before the war is won.

Please note that we have a few more Victory Bandanas up for grabs for donors who give $25 or more, so keep those donations coming!

1,000 Victory Bandanas to Global TV, 1,000 Wishes On The Moon

We have made it! Our 1,000 Victory Bandanas are on the way to Global TV! They should arrive on Monday. We included a letter making the case for why Bomb Girls deserves a 3rd season. We’re curious if it will elicit any kind of response from the Shaw Media executives.

Thank you once again to all of you amazing fans. The Save Bomb Girls campaign has truly been an international affair with Victory Bandanas being shipped as far afield as Europe, Australia and New Zealand, to the generous fans who supported the campaign. Your support is incredible and we couldn’t owe you more!

It’s amazing to think that we set a goal of $1,000 with a cautious hope that we’d have enough to send 250 Victory Bandanas to Global TV. Yet we have already raised enough to send 1,000 bandanas to Global and have well over $1,000 for a donation to the Ajax Bomb Girls Legacy Campaign. All the extra proceeds are now going towards this cause to honour the real women who inspired the show.

And we have more good news: Our printer Stitchy Lizard, who has been most supportive and patient, was kind enough to replace a few misprinted bandanas, so there are still a handful of individual bandanas up for grabs. If you donate $25 or more, you can get one of the last Victory Bandanas we have in stock.

Victory Bandanas on display

The first batch of Victory Bandanas have found their way to their intended owners, and we have photographic proof. Saving Bomb Girls has never been this much fun!

If you want to show pride and have your bandana added to the collection, this is how to do it:

Please be reminded that we may send the photos to Shaw Media, so if you don’t want us to include your photo, please make sure to let us know!

If you want your own bandana, there’s still a handful up for grabs. Just donate $25 or more and you’ll get one for as long as we have any.

Show off your Victory Bandana!

Our first batch of Victory Bandanas for individual donors was mailed this week! This includes North American as well as international donors, but those outside the US and Canada should allow some more time for overseas shipping.

Once you receive your bandana, please show it off! Post pictures of you wearing it, your friends, family or pets wearing it, or other places where you think it makes a great statement or serves as fitting decoration. Here’s how you can post them:

Please note that we may send the photos to the Shaw Media executives (either by e-mail or printed on paper) to demonstrate how much we want the show back on the air, so if you don’t want us to include your photo, please make sure to let us know!

The 1,000 bandanas that are going to Global TV are still in production (a large order like that takes a while), we will definitely keep you updated on the progress. That said, the fundraising goes on! It bears repeating that anything you give now goes to the Ajax Bomb Girls Legacy Campaign in support of the real life bomb girls that inspired the show.

At the time I’m typing this, we have eleven Victory Bandanas left for donors who give $25 or more, so here’s your last chance to still get one before they run out! If you’ve already given less than $25 before, you can combine your first donation with the second to receive a bandana of your own (please mention this with the donation).

Keep writing to Global/Shaw Media to let them know how unhappy you are about the cancellation and how much you want the show back. Encourage others to do the same! Why not drop them another e-mail, even if you’re already written? Show them that the Bomb Girls fans are a tenacious bunch!
